Location: London, United Kingdom

Achim is the Founder of WOXON, a UK based Moonshot mission to counter the main Climate Change symptom: Global warming excess Heat. Heat that is conveniently 90%+ concentrated in one medium: Water.

Achim left his previous job in Venture Capital early 2022 to fully focus on the experimental proof-of-concept for a new aqueous heat conversion process applying some of the unusual and less well-known water capabilities.

On the side, Achim is a start-up mentor for the Royal Society of Chemistry in London and occasionally supports HydroDAO and the Everblue Ventures efforts with their investment Due Diligence.

Previously, Achim worked for IP Group plc as Investor, launching University spinouts by supporting Academics commercialising their patents with funding and business support. Achim also worked as a Strategy Consultant for McKinsey& Company in the Duesseldorf and London offices.

It was in his early career where his passion for water started when working for a German Fraunhofer Cleantech Institute as the membrane expert developing water treatment solutions for industrial clients.

He holds a strong believe that we have not even scratched the surface with regards to the capabilities of water and always welcomes discussions about observed unusual capabilities of water with the goal to find bridges to the classic sciences. Even when not involved professionally in water, he always kept a hobby home lab and workshop. Theory is nice, but experiments count.

Achim holds a Dipl.-Ing. degree in Chemical Engineering from Karlsruhe University, a Dr.-Ing. in Chemical Engineering from Dortmund University (focus on aqueous ion separation using charged nanofiltration membranes), and a Kellogg/Northwestern University MBA.

Company: Cascade Water Solutions LLC

Location: College Station, Texas

Cascade Water Solutions LLC is bringing to market innovative water processing systems that surpass competing technologies with unprecedented levels of performance and economy for municipal water, fracking water and even solution mining. The founders of Cascade Water Solutions recognized this lack of a dominant economical technology in the rapidly expanding global water treatment field. They rose to this challenge, to bring together breakthrough solutions which improve methods of recovering water from a variety of sources that include Oilfield and mining wastewater, disaster relief, and onboard seafaring desalination. Existing technologies used to treat water are delicate, inefficient, expensive, wasteful, and cumbersome. These serious shortcomings make it difficult for each to perform well in the harsh conditions where they are most often needed. These improvements are based on the numerous patents and developments of Mark Holtzapple, Co-Founder and Chief Technical Officer.

I never expected my love of outdoors and Geology degree to lead me to a career at sea, but there was no resisting it. And I was fortunate enough to spend over a decade working with brilliant, creative-minded innovators and cutting edge geophysical technology.

Yet, during my travels I was horrified by the pollution in our oceans, as well as the sight of water-stressed cities in Africa, India and South America. So, I broke in my land legs gradually at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, studying Climate Science and Policy and intent on combining my new knowledge and my experience to help tackle these humanity threatening challenges.

Connecting and working with sustainable Ocean and Water technology companies, organizations and policymakers that share that goal is incredibly fulfilling and motivating. There are so many solutions that often people don’t know exist! I love spreading the word about these so much I started the Wave Makers podcast. Introducing the companies and people behind them is one way I hope to help the market adopt them, improving lives and sustainable futures globally.

(Perhaps all this is not 100% altruistic… My impulses to swim, paddle boarding, SCUBA dive, surf, sail and hydrate depend on it!)

Nothing great came easy.

My passion is to make the pleasures and necessities of human life harmonious with the natural world. The race is to space, but there’s still a lot of good work to be done on earth.

I’m currently helping ecoSPEARS, an innovative remediation technology group, build partner and client relations. This company has identified a short-coming in the remediation space, which is that there are no good processes to clean and recycle polluted lands. This is is what they aim to change, which falls in line with my passion. Getting ecoSPEARS to market adoption is the professional mission of my 20s.
